Terms of Service

Last updated 24 August 2026

This is an interim agreement. It describes accurately how the service works today and is under legal review. Questions: support@thetruevault.com.

1. What TheTrueVault does

TheTrueVault holds a buyer's payment while a deal is carried out, and directs that payment to the buyer or the seller according to what happens in the deal. We are a service that holds and records. We are not a party to your deal.

2. What TheTrueVault is not

TheTrueVault is not a bank and does not hold deposits. Funds are collected and held by licensed payment partners. We do not lend your money, invest it, or pay interest on it.

We do not inspect goods, verify that an item is genuine, or guarantee that a seller will perform. The inspection period exists so that you can check the item yourself before the money moves.

3. Eligibility and verification

You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding contract. You must give accurate information. Before you can receive a payout you must complete identity verification, and the name on your payout account must match your verified identity.

One person, one identity. A Ghana Card that has already verified an account cannot verify a second one.

4. How a trade runs

Both sides agree the terms. The buyer pays into escrow. The seller delivers, or hands over in person using the handoff code shown in the buyer's app. The buyer then has the agreed inspection period to accept or raise a problem.

If the buyer does nothing before the inspection period ends, the trade completes automatically and the seller is paid. This is stated up front and shown as a countdown in the app.

5. Fees

A service fee applies to each trade. When you create a trade you choose who pays it: the seller, the buyer, or split between you. The fee and the exact amount each side pays are shown before anyone commits, and the figure you are shown is the figure that is charged.

Your payment provider may charge separately for processing. Where we can calculate that in advance we show it. Current fees.

6. Disputes

If a trade goes wrong, you must first message the other party through TheTrueVault. Most problems are misunderstandings and are settled there. If that does not resolve it, either side can open a formal dispute, and the funds stay frozen while it is reviewed.

A dispute officer reviews the record of the trade and any evidence both sides provide, and decides how the held funds are split. That decision is final within TheTrueVault. It does not remove any right you have to pursue the matter elsewhere.

7. Payouts and holds

Payouts go to your verified payout account. Your first several payouts as a new seller are held briefly before release. We may also hold or reverse a payout where we have reasonable grounds to suspect fraud, where funding is reversed by the payment network, or where we are required to by law.

High-value releases require approval by two separate members of our staff.

8. What you may not use it for

Anything illegal. Money laundering or terrorist financing. Trading on behalf of someone whose identity is hidden from us. Goods you are not entitled to sell. Creating multiple accounts to evade limits, holds or a ban. Using the chat to harass or threaten the other party.

We may suspend or close an account that does any of this, and we may be required to report it without telling you.

9. Liability

We are responsible for handling the funds you place in escrow correctly and for running the service with reasonable care. We are not responsible for the quality, legality or existence of the item being traded, or for what the other party does.

Our liability for any claim connected to a trade is limited to the amount held in escrow for that trade.

10. Changing these terms

If we change these terms in a way that affects you, we will tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect. Trades already under way continue on the terms that applied when they started.
